PURIFYING, purifying. There will always remain something, says the photographer Philippe Biancotto, whose objective is to go to the essential, while knowing how far to go too far with his subject.
« It’s live, I like that we can return strongly in an image ».
Men, women, known or unknown, are captured without concessions or staging. Philippe engages himself in a dialogue with his model, to enter his universe before extracting it. The lack of history creates intimacy and stimulates curiosity.
When one points out that he does not try to embellish his subjects, he admits his preference to reveal a personality rather than a physical aspect quickly outdated. In his eyes, the photo is more a look and an attitude than a static representation. It is the shooting that excites him, and what happens in its duration.
Philippe made his debut in London by shooting album covers. Then, during 4 years, he is responsible for the image of France’s Minister of Culture Jack LANG. Three years in Brazil for the channel REDE GLOBO train him to the realization of film sets. It is in Paris that he definitely chooses photography.
PHILIPPE BIANCOTTO currently lives in Paris, as a photographer, mainly in portraits and fashion.
